Hack@Lab with Deloitte

Hack@Lab with Deloitte is a one-day Hackathon at the brand-new AI Lab of Frankfurt School. Our event partner Deloitte will announce two challenges for the hackers. The aim of the competition is to develop an data driven solution that will respond to one of these.

Up to thirty-five hacking participants will encounter these challenges. Organised in teams of up to five passionate data enthusiasts, they will develop and present their innovative solutions.

A team of experts will be more than happy to bring out the best in all of you. They will be welcoming especially to newcomers and helping them get involved in a activity. Mentors do not participate in the judicial process and their role is completely neutral.

Application is open to all developers and designers, project managers including FS master and final year bachelor students. Applicants will be contacted regarding admission results within one week from the registration.

Remember to bring your electronics, like your laptop, phone, and chargers.


All participating members will be put in teams up to five. Deloitte will compose the teams in advance. A diverse pool of people and multi-disciplinary teams that have wide-ranging experience are highly regarded.


There is no fee for registration, but submitted applications will be revised and a select few candidates will be invited to the event.

Organisation of the Competition

The company Deloitte GmbH Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft – located at Rosenheimer Platz 4,
81669 München Germany,  company registration number DE 813671378 - is organising a hackathon called “Hack@Lab with Deloitte” (hereafter referred to as “competition”) on October 1st, 2018,  as an event partner of Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, located in Adickesallee 32-34, 60322 Frankfurt am Main, company registration number DE 255 319 815.

Objective of the Competition

The aim of the competition is to develop, in teams and in 1-day, an innovative solution that will respond to one of the two challenges presented on September 30st, 2018 at 09:00am.

Participation Process

The competition is free and without any purchase obligation. The competition is open to every individual(s)

  1. who have the age required by law in their country of residence to enter this competition,
  2. who hold a bank account in their country of tax residence,
  3. who have IT skills, technical skills, design skills, project management skills, or juridical skills and
  4. who have their own computer hardware in working order during the duration of the competition (hereafter referred to as “participant”).

Employees of Frankfurt School of Finance & Management or Deloitte, their affiliates, and members of their families, as well as anyone who has directly or indirectly contributed to the conception, organization or realization of the competition are ineligible to take part in the competition.

The registration for the competition is open from August 23, 2018 until September 16, 2018. The competition will take place at October 1, 2018 – 09:00am until 10:00pm.

Each registration in the competition is individual, and only one registration per person is allowed during the entire duration of the competition.

Registration Process

Object: Every person wishing to participate can register online on the dedicated website for the competition accessible at the following address: here. He or she must answer the following questions: First name, Last name, Email address, Job title? Are you new to Hackathons? What kind of hacker are you? What are you studying? What did you study? What are you interested in hacking? How did you hear about the event? Do you have any special needs that we need to know about? Do you have anything else you would like us to know? How old are you? How many years of work experience do you have? Which topic are you interested most?

Each candidate guarantees that the information entered during his/her application to the competition is complete and accurate. Any false, incorrect or incomplete information will automatically result in the application being rejected.

The organiser reserves the right to reject an application at any time if the profile of the participant does not comply with the competition standards.

Teams Formation

Date: Before October 1st, 2018
Object: The organiser will form teams of two (2) to five (5) participants to focus around a single project (hereafter referred to as “Teams”). One participant cannot be a part of several Teams.

Presentation and Judging

Time:  11:30 MID-PITCH (2 minutes per team), 19:00 MID-PITCH (5 minutes per team + Q&A)

Jury’s Selection and Competition Results

Object: The Jury will deliberate on the prize winner. The announcement of winners and the reward ceremony will follow the Judging at 09:00 pm

Determination of Winners

The winner prize will be determined by a jury of 3 to 4 members representing Deloitte and Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. The jury will designate the winners.

The winners will be selected among the participants who actually:

  • Satisfy the conditions for participation as set forth in the present rules
  • Participated in the competition session
  • Were present during the submission of their data science solution, or – if need be – were excused by the other members of their Team.

The jury will select the winning teams based on the following criteria:

  • Use of machine-learning techniques
  • Use of open-source tools like Python, R (or their libraries)
  • Documentation
  • Validation
  • Summarisation
Prizes Awarded

The competition is endowed with 5600€ divided amongst two cash and non-cash prizes:

First prize: the sum of 4800€ (divided equally between each member of the winning teams).
Second prize: the sum of 800€ (divided equally between each member of the winning teams).

The gained prizes are neither exchangeable nor refundable against their cash value.

Prizes Allocation

Prizes will be sent to the winners within a maximum of 12 (twelve) weeks, to the address indicated by the winners. If the coordinates of a winner are unusable (illegible, incomplete or erroneous), the latter will lose the profit of its prize.
In addition, the organiser cannot be held liable because of an error of routing of the prize, the loss of this one during his shipment or the impossibility to contact the winner.
No mail will be sent to Participants who did not win.


Participant waives all its claims regarding compensation against the organiser due to its participation to the competition (in particular with regards to cost incurred for participation such as the transport, accommodation, etc.) with the exception of drinks and meals which will be supplied by the organiser during all the duration of the competition.

Modification of the Competition

The organiser reserves the right to shorten, extend, modify or terminate the competition, or a part of the competition as a result of a force majeure event without incurring liability as a result thereof. In such case, the organiser will provide notice thereof to the participants by any means (including email and/or publication on the website (by its choice), and, if the need arises, will communicate to them the new rules applicable or the new ending date of the competition, as the case may be. Each participant may notify by e-mail to the organiser that s/he refuse the new conditions of the Rules, in which case s/he will be excluded from participating, which s/he expressly accepts. If no refusal is notified to the organiser within 72 hours, the new conditions of the Rules will be deemed accepted by participants.
In case of a modification to the rules, cancellation, interruption of the competition, a reduction or an extension of its length, the organiser waives all liability and participants will not be entitled to a compensation.


The organiser may cancel all or part of participations in the competition if it appears that fraud has occurred in any form whatsoever, in particular computer fraud, during the competition. The organiser reserves, in this case, the right not to award prizes to fraudsters, to disqualify the concerned prototype project and/or to bring actions against the authors of these frauds. The organiser shall not incur any responsibility towards the Participants because of the committed frauds.
Furthermore, the organiser cannot be liable in case of damage, whether material or immaterial, caused during the competition and thereafter, to the participants, to their computing equipment to the data and to the consequences which can ensue from it on their personal, professional or commercial activity.

Exploitation Rights and Intellectual Property

Exploitation rights and the property of prototypes developed during the competition are reserved to Deloitte. If the participants wish to assign their rights, they shall first offer to the organiser the option to acquire the rights in the solutions for commercial use. The conditions of this assignment of rights shall be defined by way of a separate agreement between the organiser and the participants.
During the competition, the participants shall only use elements which are clear of any rights. Any third parties elements included in the solutions, including open source software, must be clearly identified with their version, the terms of the applicable license and any other details regarding their use. The participant understands that this information is taken into account in the assessment for the allocation of a prize.
The solutions shall not infringe any intellectual property right or images right. Each participant warrants to the organiser that their creation does not infringe in any way any third party rights, and that s/he obtained, where necessary, the authorization of any third party.
Each Participant agrees to be mediatised (portfolio, website, etc.) and authorises the Organiser and Frankfurt School, for free, to present all the works realized on all the communication media used in support of this Competition as well as to mention names, first names and images of the participants.
Under this regulation, the participant shall not acquire any full or partial right of any kind on the name and trademark “Frankfurt School of Finance & Management” nor on any names and/or brands associated with Frankfurt School, used alone, in association with or as part of another word or name, or any rights on trademarks, names or logos of Frankfurt School, or any of its associated or related companies.

Image Rights

The participants may be filmed or photographed during the event. By joining the competition, the participants agree to the use and the distribution of their image by Deloitte and Frankfurt School, including for promotional event occurring after the competition. The production and distribution of films and photographs of the event will not lead to any compensation of the participants.

Protection of Personal Data

The collection and processing of personal data relating to the participant by the organiser is primarily intended to ensure that the competition will be properly completed and in particular to allow the organiser to contact the winner and to award them the prizes in an efficient way and, if the cases arises, to publish the list of the winners.

Application of the Terms and Conditions

Participation in the competition implies full acceptance without reservation of the present regulation. Participation in the competition is strictly personal and the participant cannot, under any circumstances, be replaced. Any claim relating to the competition will be barred after the period of three (3) months from the deadline for participation.
Any dispute arising in connection with the present competition, and which could not be settled amicably, will be submitted to the competent courts of Frankfurt. The present Regulation is submitted to German law.

Deloitte Logo

The Deloitte logo cannot be passed on to a third party. Frankfurt School has no rights on the Deloitte logo. In any case Deloitte’s written permission is needed before the Deloitte logo is used. Frankfurt School can use the Deloitte logo relating to the hackathon only between 08/18 and 01/19.
